Make a Lasting Difference
Thank you for your interest in our Legacy Society and supporting Assistance Dogs of Hawaii through planned giving. We offer a variety of gift options that not only benefit you and your family, but will also support our mission and the people we serve for years to come.
We are honored and grateful for your consideration to include Assistance Dogs of Hawaii in your estate plans. Please contact our Executive Director, Maureen Maurer, for more information on any of our planned giving options.
What to Give
GIFTS OF STOCKS AND BONDS: There are many benefits of gifting stocks and bonds including avoidance of capital gains tax, tax deductions, and potential increased income. Please contact us for appropriate delivery options.
GIFTS OF REAL ESTATE: Gifting real estate is a great way for you to save on taxes or increase your income while supporting Assistance Dogs of Hawaii’s mission. Gifts can be made with undeveloped or developed property.
GIFTS OF CASH: This is one of the easiest and most common ways for you to include Assistance Dogs of Hawaii in your planned giving. Cash can be used to support our work in many ways including an outright gift through the form of cash or check, a gift in your will or living trust, a charitable gift annuity, an endowed gift, or a memorial gift.
GIFTS OF RETIREMENT ASSETS: Gifts of retirement assets are an effective way to greatly reduce your taxes. To leave a gift of retirement assets, name Assistance Dogs of Hawaii as a beneficiary on your plan’s beneficiary designation form. Please talk to your IRA plan administrator to make changes to your beneficiary designation form.
*All gifts are subject to review under our gifts acceptance policy
How to Give
BEQUESTS: Designate Assistance Dogs of Hawaii as a beneficiary of your asset by will or trust. This is one of the most common and simplest ways to leave a lasting legacy. More information about bequests can be found here.
IRA CHARITABLE ROLLOVER: If you are 70 1/2 years of age or older, a qualified charitable distribution may be a great planned giving option and can allow you to lower income taxes and taxes from your IRA withdrawals. Benefits of an IRA charitable rollover include an avoidance of taxes on transfers of up to $100,000 from your IRA to Assistance Dogs of Hawaii, a reduction of taxable income, and can help you meet your required minimum distribution for the year.
CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUST: A Charitable Remainder Trust transfers ownership and management of cash and/or appreciated securities to Assistance Dogs of Hawaii. Assistance Dogs of Hawaii manages the trust and pays income to you for the remainder of your life. You will also receive a charitable deduction for your gift of the remainder to Assistance Dogs of Hawaii.
CHARITABLE LEAD TRUST: Charitable Lead Trusts are opposite of the better known, Charitable Remainder Trust. Build a charitable fund with Assistance Dogs of Hawaii during the trust’s term. When the trust terminates, the remaining assets are returned to the heirs, often with significant tax savings.
LIFE INSURANCE POLICIES OR PROCEEDS: Receive charitable tax deductions while making a larger gift tham might otherwise be possible with the gift of life insurance. You can use an existing insurance policy, create a new specific policy, or utilize an old policy for this type of donation.
