SUCCESS STORIES
Assistance Dogs of Hawaii has placed over 100 assistance dogs in the past 20 years!
Here are the stories of just some of our graduate teams.
JORDAN AND SERVICE DOG HARPER
Harper is right by Jordan’s side as he attends middle school on Oahu. She assists him with every day tasks and is an unfailing companion to him. Together, Jordan and Harper can tackle any challenge and we look forward to following their many adventures together.

KAREN AND SERVICE DOG ELLA
Ella is a successor dog for Karen who graduated with her first ADH Service Dog, Chipper, in 2002. “I feel so blessed with Ella by my side”, Karen says. “She is so well trained and is truly an amazing blessing.”
IAN & SERVICE DOG NELSON
Ian is in elementary school and has cerebral palsy and autism. Like many children, he was anxious about going to school. Just before starting the school year, he received his Service Dog, Nelson, and told his mom, “I finally have a best friend.” Nelson accompanies Ian to school each day and helps with physical tasks like walking and carrying items. He also recognizes when Ian becomes anxious and helps to calm him down. “He is the best dog in the world,” says Ian.
MELANIE AND SERVICE DOG FREEDOM
Melanie was home alone and cooking dinner when a fire started on the stove. Trying to put it out, Melanie fell out of her wheelchair and lay on the floor, putting out her hair which had caught on fire. Freedom ran to the other room and brought back the cordless phone. Melanie was able to call 911 and the firemen arrived before any serious damage occurred. Melanie was amazed that Freedom lay by her side the entire time, despite the room filling with smoke. “He is my hero,” says Melanie.
