“HONOLULU (KHON2) – Four new puppies that will begin training with Assistance Dogs of Hawaii made a special visit to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children. The puppies visited with patients and Winnie, Kapiolani’s Chief Canine Officer and hospital facility dog who was also trained by Assistance Dogs of Hawaii.
For more than 15 years, Assistance Dogs of Hawaii has brought their puppies in training to visit with patients at Kapiolani. It’s a special occasion for patients, who love to see the puppies, and the puppies also get an opportunity to learn by watching Winnie in action.
Assistance Dogs of Hawaii has been serving Hawai‘i for 20 years, providing service dogs, hospital facility dogs and courthouse dogs free of charge to help those in need.
Both Winnie and Kapiolani’s previous hospital facility dog, Tucker, were trained by and gifted to Kapiolani by Assistance Dogs of Hawaii. Winnie continues Tucker’s legacy through Kapiolani’s Animal-Assisted Therapy Program by providing companionship and support for pediatric patients.”
